Gospel and Bluegrass Benefit Concert in Snow Hill
A benefit concert scheduled in Snow Hill less than 2 weeks before Thanksgiving offers a win-win opportunity. The community will have a chance to give back, lending a hand to those who suffered devastating loss in the western part of the state during Hurricane Helene, all while enjoying good music.
Organized by GoMix Christian Radio (Pathway Ministries, the concert includes some of the area’s favorite southern gospel and bluegrass musicians. Dan “The Lunch Time Man” Millard will be the master of ceremonies for the night.
Dawson Road kicks the evening off at 7 pm. Dawson Road includes Kevin Woolard, pastor of Grifton Free Will Baptist Church, Daniel Albritton, who previously traveled with Men of Faith, and the Greenes, and John Hill, pastor of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church in Farmville.
Next on the schedule is Moore’s Creek, a veteran bluegrass band with Don Dunn, mandolin and vocals; John Booker, bass and vocals; Shane Harris, guitar and vocals; and Mitch Mitchell, banjo. Clyde Mattocks will be joining them for the performance. With a deep-rooted love for traditional bluegrass, they blend the timeless classics of first-generation bluegrass and contemporary bluegrass.
“It’s not often you get a chance to use your craft to help someone that is hurting. I am humbled and happy to help with this event. I’m looking forward to it,” Dunn said.
“It breaks my heart to see what those good people are going through and it won’t get better for a long time,” Mattocks said. “I am honored to have a small part in lending a hand.”
The concert culminates with the Down East Boys, known for their distinctive quartet harmony. The group includes lead vocalist Ricky Carden, tenor, Doug Pittman, baritone, Cayden Howell, and bass Alex Utech. The group has topped the charts several times in recent years with such songs as “Beat Up Bible,” “Testimony Time,” and “Amazing Amounts of Amazing Grace.” Recording on the Sonlite label of Crossroads Music Group in Asheville, NC, the Down East Boys have recorded over 20 albums, including five number one songs to date.
For donations, a love offering will be accepted during the concert for those that are able to help with cash, check, or credit card. Checks made out to Pathway Ministries will be directed to Samaritan’s Purse.
“We do not have any ties to western NC, or Samaritan’s Purse.,” Jeremy Worthington from GoMix Radio said, “but we do feel that Samaritan’s Purse is one of the better organizations to help and feel more confident that the donations will get to the people that need them the most. In fact we raised over $5,200 a couple of weeks ago during our fundraiser on the radio to send to Samaritan’s Purse.”
A truck will be on site the day of the concert to receive drop offs of new toys and winter items like coats, gloves etc.
The concert is scheduled for November 15, 7 pm at the Greene County Wellness Center, 84, N. Perry Drive, Snow Hill. Doors open at 6pm, and chairs will be available. Admission is free, but donations and a love offering will be accepted for Western NC.
