Steph & the Boyfriends were one of our favorite acts. They stayed at our house after their May 2013 show and the next morning made a terrific video in our front yard of the classic Elizabeth Cotten song “Freight Train.” Set amongst some beautiful azaleas cultivated by R.A.Fountain himself and accompanied by a neighborhood mockingbird–as well as Mario Arnez on guitar and Omar Ruiz-Lopez on mandolin–it’s not only an excellent interpretation of Cotten’s song but a good reminder that spring can’t be so far away.
