The Buffalo Creek String Band, an old-time country quartet from Concord North Carolina, performed at R.A. Fountain on October 3, 2008. The members of the band are Annie Griffey (vocals, bass), Joy Moser (Vocals, guitar, bass, dobro), Jackie Burgess (fiddle, banjo), and Scott Dixon (banjo, mandolin, guitar).
Lead vocalists Griffey and Moser harmonize on covers of country classics. The Shady Grove listening room wrote, “This foursome cranks out old-time, Cajun, country, honky tonk, and Cape Breton tunes with a traditional sensibility and progressive artistry.” A few of the artists they cover include the Carter Family, Hazel Dickens, Kitty Wells, and Ola Belle Reed. Buffalo Creek’s performances are also known for being filled with energy and chock full of skillful musicianship.
