The two poets sat in front of a “crowd” of about 8 people in the Fountain Public Library and swapped poems about growing up in small towns, Applewhite, of course, in Stantonsburg, down the road on NC 222,and Morgan, the mountain man, from Zirconia. Three of Jim’s classmates were delighted to see him and one told a great story about how, in elementary school, they’d ask teacher to please let Jimmy tell them a story when rain prevented an outdoors recess. One of them then added, “One time, it was a pretty day, and I asked if we couldn’t just stay inside anyway and let Jimmy tell us a story.”
