Lynda and Pattie Friday at Fountain, Half-price for Children

[Fountain, NC] Lynda and Pattie perform original and traditional bluegrass and old-time music at Fountain General Store on Friday night.

Lynda Dawson and Pattie Hopkins are still mainstays with Kickin Grass, one of the most popular bluegrass bands in North Carolina.

But their duet act is getting high praise wherever it’s played. They were big hits recently at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass in Raleigh, and have just released their debut CD, Traditional Duets.

The multi-talented Lynda writes “intelligently crafted lyrics married to unforgettable melodies,” according to one music critic. She was a judge at last year’s MerleFest songwriting competition. She regularly performs original and traditional music at schools and kid-centric venues.

“We’d love to see a lot of kids out at this show,” said Alex Albright, Fountain General Store proprietor. “Both of these artists are talented and personable teachers. They love performing their material and watching young folks respond to it.”

Pattie Hopkins began playing violin when she was 4. She earned her bachelors in violin performance from ECU, studying with Joanne Bath and Ara Gregorian.

She has since then studied bluegrass fiddle with two legends, Bobby Hicks and Mark O’Connor, and become a popular teacher herself, maintaining two studios.

A Martin County native who has played RAF several times over the last several years, she also currently plays with the Trent River Chamber Players, the Long Bay Symphony in Myrtle Beach, Kickin’ Grass, and the folk-rock band The Morning After.
