Doug & Telisha Williams Band

Location: R.A. Fountain

Doug and Telisha Williams, from Martinsville, Va., bring with them for their Fountain show Tom Berry on Hammond organ and Jake Winebrenner on drums and percussion.

Berry also plays organ for Percy Sledge, and Winebrenner works regularly in Nashville, Tenn. with several bands, performing and recording.

“This is really a spectacular act for us,” said Albright. “They don’t get out on the road much with a band, and they’ve put this one together with two of their favorite musical friends just for their trip to Fountain.”

The Williamses share vocals. Doug plays acoustic and electric guitars and harmonica; Telisha plays upright bass.

Their original songs about the beautiful but impoverished Appalachian world they live in have been critically praised. Their latest CD, which was a top 100 record in 2010, prompted one reviewer to say, “They now have the old-time, pre-’70s country, mountain, and honky-tonk road house music all blended together.”
