Brian & Mary Lewis

Location: R.A. Fountain

From our promo for this concert:

Brian and Mary Lewis, Durham-based recording artists, will present a concert of vintage country music this Saturday night. Their “Mending Broken Hearts” concert has been specially designed for Valentine’s Day.

Also, just in time for Valentine’s Day, a fresh supply of Jones Fruit Farm ice cream has arrived at RAF: strawberry, peach, vanilla and chocolate.

Joining the Lewises in Saturday’s show will be bassist Nancy Bierman, who will also add a sweet third-part harmony on many of their songs.

The Lewises specialize in classic old-time acoustic country. Their shows feature spirited covers of songs by the close-harmony “brother groups” popular in the 1930s and 1940s: the Delmore Brothers, the Blue Sky Boys, the Louvin Brothers, and the Monroe Brothers–until they parted company in 1938, making way for brother Bill to supercharge the music he then began calling “bluegrass.”

They also perform more contemporary songs as popularized by Hank Williams, the Everly Brothers, and Buck Owens.

Brian and Mary Lewis were big hits at Fountain’s first Peanut Festival, held in August 2008, when a full house at RAF enthusiastically asked that they get a return engagement.

Their Valentine’s Day concert begins at 7:30 on February 14. General admission is $5.
