Barefoot Movement Picks Bluegrass at Fountain on Friday

[Fountain, NC] Barefoot Movement returns to Fountain Friday evening for a high energy concert of traditional and original bluegrass and newgrass versions of songs by such pop music luminaries as Jimi Hendrix and the Beach Boys.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Barefoot Movement has won several awards since forming seven years ago, including the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum Award for New Band of the Year and runner-up for New Band at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival

Fronted by Oxford, NC native Noah Kelce on fiddle and lead vocals, the band also includes guitarist Tommy Norris on mandolin. They met while still in high school and played Fountain for the first time the summer before leaving for college. Kelce has since graduated from East Tennessee State University’s bluegrass studies program, and Norris from Western Carolina, where he studied classical performance and recording engineering.

Joining them in the band are Alex Conerly on guitar and vocals, from Hattiesburg, Miss., and Katie Blomarz of Frankfort, Illinois, on upright bass.

Together, they have built a reputation for their lush harmonies, thoughtful instrumentation, and memorable melodies. They are popular at festivals throughout the U.S. and have toured Europe and Africa, where they were guest performers at the American Embassy in Burkina Faso.

Barefoot Movement was recently showcased at the 2018 Americana Awards, and have played Merlefest several times already in their young career. They have drawn contemporary comparisons to Mumford and Sons and the Avett Brothers.

The band has released five CDs, which wiil be on sale at their show. They are all also available as digital downloads from the band’s webpage: www.thebarefootmovementofficial.com.
