Warmouth T. Gibbs, Jr., a Greensboro native, was the son of long-time A and T president Warmouth T. Gibbs, Sr.

Gibbs married Margaret M. Hill (1924-1986) and they had six children: Brenda, Sheila, Marece, Annette, Warmouth, III, and Wilmotte.
