Melvin Wall

Melvin Lloyd Wall, from Albemarle, N.C., was a math teacher at Fayetteville State College when he enlisted in the Navy, where he eventually earned Mus1c rating. He directed several of B-1’s dance bands.

Melvin and Audrey Wall were married in 1943. Melvin came home after the death of their son in 1945 and was in California, preparing to return to duty in Hawaii when the war ended.

He began teaching band at Williston Industrial High School in Wilmington upon his discharge, where, his Audrey Wall recalled, he “was very happy to re-unite with old friends.”

After earning a Master’s at A and T, he taught again at Williston and then, in 1951, the Walls moved back to Albemarle, where he taught math in the Stanly County schools. They moved to Charlotte in 1966, where he taught ICC at West Charlotte High School until retiring in 1976; Audrey Wall was also a career educator.

Melvin Wall, Jr. is an attorney and his daughter a doctor.
