Karen Smedley and Three Jack Jenny return to Fountain General Store tomorrow nightt for a concert of original and traditional bluegrass, bluegrass gospel and country music.
Vocalist Karen Smedley began performing as a child in her family band, touring across the Southeast with her sister and father. Her husband, guitarist Jeff Smedley, leads a band of excellent Triangle musicians: Austyn Howell on guitar; Tyler Jackson on banjo; Jef Walter on bass, and Stephen Fraleigh on fiddle.
Howell, who lives in Snow Camp, is a third generation picker whose father, David, played with the Bluegrass Parlor Band in Tampa, Florida. He has played with Bridgetown and Drive Time.
Tyler Jackson, also formerly with Drive Time, has been playing banjo since he was 12. Jef Walter, the Durham-based bass player, also leads the Carolina PineCones youth bluegrass band.
Stephen Fraleigh, from Akron, Ohio, is a two-time bluegrass fiddle champion at the Galax Old-Time Fiddlers Convention. He began playing at 6, and during his 40-year fiddling career he has worked with the Young Blades of Bluegrass, Beanpole and the Bluegrass Mountaineers, and the Jeanette Williams Band,
The band released its debut CD, “No Known Cure,” last year.
