Here in Fountain is our little postage stamp of damp and sandy soil, divided: on one side of our main street, rain water runs off to the Tar River, while on the other side, it’s off to the Neuse.Smack-dab in the middle of everywhere, we’re also the peak of Pitt County (112′) as well as its pit, thanks to the big hole Martin Marietta has been digging for 50 years or so.
