Former Miss Black NC Performs Friday with Creech Jazz All-Stars, NC Poet Laureate Free on Saturday Afternoon – Farmville Dogwood Fest Thurs – Sunday

[Fountain, NC] RaSheeda Waddell headlines Friday night’s concert that also features the Steve Creech Jazz All-Stars at Fountain General Store.

North Carolina Poet Laureate Shelby Stephenson launches his newest collection of poems, “Our World,” on Saturday afternoon at a free poetry reading and book signing.

Waddell, who teaches keyboards and vocals in Greenville, has been winning talent and beauty contests since she was a teenager growing up in Greensboro. She is a magna cum laude graduate in music performance from Hampton University, where she also won the 2007 Miss Hampton University Scholarship pageant. She was crowned Miss Black North Carolina in 2010, when she also was 3rd runner up in the Miss Black USA pageant.

Waddell earned a Master’s in Music Performance at ECU. She sings in a variety of genres, including jazz, pop and show tunes as well as bluegrass. She is also an excellent pianist.

Steve Creech, the Greenville jazz guitarist and impresario, will be joined in the band for this evening’s show by Bobby Harrison on drums, George Knott on acoustic bass and tuba, and Jim Gilliam on saxophones, clarinet, and keyboards.
