Location: R.A. Fountain

[Fountain, NC] Steph Stewart and the Boyfriends return to Fountain General Store Friday night for a concert of original alt-Americana and country music.

Big hits when they played Fountain last spring, Stewart and her band have since released their first CD, Over the World Below.

Steph Stewart’s vocals have drawn comparisons to Gillian Welch, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn and Emmylou Harris, “but with a subtle, more modern touch.”

Yes Weekly says Stewart “could follow Gillian Welch and Tift Merritt as the next great voice in alt-country.”

Performing in the Boyfriends are guitarist Mario Arnez, fiddle and mandolin player Omar Ruiz-Lopez, and bassist Nick Vandenberg. All are classically trained. Stewart plays guitar and banjo.

The band was nominated as Best Americana Performer at July’s Carolina Music Awards and Stewart’s original composition, “Wake Me Carolina” was a finalist in Our State magazine’s songwriting contest.
