South Carolina Broadcasters

Location: R.A. Fountain

from our promo for this concert

The South Carolina Broadcasters, who feature tight vocal harmonies and excellent picking, perform old-time mountain classics and original songs composed in that style.

Virginia State folklorist John Lohman calls them “an arresting trio of fine musicians” with a sound that is “at once hauntingly ancient yet refreshingly new.”

Ivy Sheppard plays fiddle, David Sheppard plays guitar, and Sarah Osborne, new to the group since they last performed in Fountain, plays banjo. They all share in vocal leads and harmonies.

The Broadcasters will be featured at this year’s MerleFest in April and at the Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association’s Showcase in May, during their tour of the northeast.

The Charleston City Paper praised their second CD, released in 2012, for the “rich texture” of their instrumentation and their “warm and aching harmonies.”
