Smith Brothers Bluegrass

Location: R.A. Fountain

from our promo for this concert

The Smith Brothers Bluegrass Band returns to Fountain General Store for a Saturday night concert of bluegrass and bluegrass gospel favorites.

From the Rocky Mount area, the band includes Troy, Shelton, and Grady Smith, who play guitar, dobro, and banjo respectively. They perform traditional bluegrass because, founder Troy Smith says, “That’s the only kind of music there is.”

Troy Smith often chides his brothers for having gotten off on the wrong foot, musically, by playing rock and roll in their younger years. But Shelton and Grady Smith found the bluegrass way long enough ago to have been performing bluegrass barn-pickin’ style for over 40 years.

The Smiths are joined in their band by Gerald Flowers on bass, Ricky Privett on mandolin, and Kenny Wood on fiddle.
