Ruth Wyand

Location: R.A. Fountain

Award-winning slide & fingerpicking guitarist and singer-songwriter Ruth Wyand, now living in Kill Devil Hills, plays RAF for the first time tonight. She’s won the Gamble Rogers Fingerstyle Guitar Competition, the South Florida Folk Festival Songwriting Competition, and was a finalist at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

She cites Memphis Minnie and Sister Rosetta Tharpe as her primary influences.

Ruth was featured in January ’22 as part of the original Washington’s First Friday series, which occasioned this interview with her on WNCT-TV.

Her picking style, bottle neck slide and powerful vocals are a treat you won’t want to miss.

With a rootsy approach to songwriting, her songs encompass a broad range of Americana, blues, and jazz steeped in imagery and reality.
