[Fountain, NC] Russ Varnell and Too Country return to Fountain General Store for a concert of classic honky tonk country music this coming Friday night.
Varnell, from the Wilson County community of Black Creek, has released three CDs, including the double live set from 2015.
He and his band were featured at last year’s NC State Fair in Raleigh and have made numerous appearances at some of the best country music venues in Austin, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee.
“Russ always has an excellent band with him,” said Alex Albright, Fountain General Store proprietor. “And he’s got a terrific collection of classic country suits. He seems to come back with a new one every time he goes to Nashville.”
Among his embroidered and studded outfits are suits and jackets previously worn by Buck Owens, Mel Tillis, Porter Wagoner, and Bill Anderson. He also sports a jacket made especially for him by the renowned designer-to-the-stars Manuel.
Joining Varnell in his Too Country band are Ricky Hagan on steel guitar, Roger Gilmore on drums, Dave Evans on bass, and Wesley Dew on guitar.
