Robert Morgan & James Applewhite

The two poets sat in front of a “crowd” of about 8 people in the Fountain Public Library and swapped poems about growing up in small towns, Applewhite, of course, in Stantonsburg, down the road on NC 222,and Morgan, the mountain man, from Zirconia. Three of his classmates were delighted to see Jimmy and one told a great story about how, at first in elementary school, they’d have young Jim Applewhite tell them a story when rain prevented an outdoors recess. This particular lady then said, “One time, it was a pretty day, and I asked if we couldn’t just stay inside anyway and let Jimmy tell us a story.”
