Nu-Blu Plays Bluegrass, Country Friday Night

[Fountain, NC] Nu-Blu comes to Fountain for a Friday night concert as one of the hottest bluegrass bands in the U.S. They have recently been named permanent hosts of “Bluegrass Ridge,” the nationally syndicated TV series made in Nashville, Tennessee, and aired on the Family Channel and in Europe and Australia. Their ninth LP, “Vagabonds,” was released this year and has produced three Top Ten national airplay hits on Sirius XM.

For over a decade a nationally touring bluegrass band, performing over 200 dates a year, Nu-Blu has also recently been embraced by Nashville’s country music community and in August became members of the Country Music Association. They were a Breakout Band at MerleFest and named Country Band of the Year by the Carolina Music Awards.

Based in Siler City, Nu-Blu is fronted by the husband and wife duo of Carolyn and Daniel Routh. She plays bass and sings most of the leads; he plays guitar, sings, and arranges.

Calder Baker on banjo is joined by newcomer Justin Harrison on fiddle and mandolin. Harrison, son of Eastern NC mandolin master Frankie Harrison, grew up in Martin County and graduated from Morehead State University’s bluegrass studies program. He last played Fountain with Karl Shiflett’s Big Country Show.
