Location: R.A. Fountain

from our promo for this concert

Internationally acclaimed fiddler, step-dancer, and singer April Verch performs at Fountain for the first time on June 9 with Joe Newberry, one of the best old-time banjo players in the U.S.

April Verch, who lives in Canada, has toured throughout the Americas, Australia, and Africa. A Berklee School of Music grad, she has recorded 10 CDs, including her most recent, “The April Verch Anthology,” a compilation of recordings made between 1998-2015.

Newberry, the Raleigh-based banjo and guitar player who was a frequent guest on “Prairie Home Companion,” is also an award-winning songwriter with a voice that is perfect for his traditional and old-time material.

Verch and Newberry released their first CD together last year, the critically acclaimed “Going Home.” The duo has recently completed an extended tour of Europe.

“This is one of the biggest shows we’ve ever hosted,” said Albright. “Joe has loved playing here and he’s been anxious to get April here to enjoy our old store’s acoustics, as well as the heart pine floors for her to dance on.”

Verch and Newberry’s June 9 concert begins at 7:30. General admission is $17.50; reserved seats, $20, tax included.
