Singer-songwriter Miriam Allen, who plays fiddle and guitar, makes her songs from a life of observations borne from natural settings, from the shrimp boats of Charleston to a life now based on a small sailboat anchored in various Appalachian lakes.
She’s part of the lively Asheville music scene, where she performs solo shows and has opened for Doc Watson, Tim O’Brien, and Asleep at the Wheel, to name a few. She’s also played Merle Fest, Belle Cher, the Flat Rock Music Fest, the Mountain Sports Fest, and the Salmon Fest in Ninilchik, Alaska.
But, she notes on her webpage,
My real specialty is what I call ‘Adventure Gigs.”’ I like to book gigs in off-the-map places where I can throw backpacking or sailing or something out-there into the mix.
Whether RAF qualifies as an adventure gig remains to be seen. Some know that Fountain isn’t on all the road maps, and on some it’s still called Reba, which was its name briefly, after we were Slabtown but before we became Fountain. Regardless, Miriam’s staying the night in town, maybe camping, maybe in our apartment, and we’re glad to have her stopping by.
