Michael Holland of Carrboro will present his “Folkbomb” show at 4 p.m. Former lead songwriter and frontman for the band Jennyanykind, Holland has recently been performing with the Triangle-based bluegrass band Big Fat Gap, which opened at Alltel Pavillion in April for Reba McIntyre. Jennyanykind released 8 CDs before disbanding in 2003.
Holland’s solo recording, Independent Dreams, was nominated as best record of the year by the Independent, and Holland himself was nominated as best folk artist. His music defines a part of North Carolina and Southern culture, but is broad enough to reach across global boundaries. Based in tradition, yet modern in its translation, it draws on the wellspring of American music and the rhythms of everyday life to create an original and inspired musical experience. Doors open for Holland’s concert at 3 p.m.; music starts at 4.
