Joe Newberry Concert Friday

[Fountain, NC] Joe Newberry returns to Fountain General Store Friday night for a concert of old-time music and entertainment.

Originally from Missouri, Newberry is fond of saying he moved to North Carolina “as soon as I heard of it,” and he’s been a star of our state’s phenomenal old-time music scene ever since.

His frequent appearances on Prairie Home Companion have made his a familiar sound across the U.S. Garrison Keillor said of him, “A musician like Joe embodies the true South. You can’t have too many of these people.”

Newberry recently returned from a grand Transatlantic Tour in the United Kingdom with fiddler Aly Bain and Dobro master Jerry Douglas. His show with fiddler and step-dancer April Verch was one of the highlights at last year’s World of Bluegrass in Raleigh.

A terrific multi-instrumentalist–he plays banjo, guitar, and fiddle–and award-winning songwriter, Newberry’s last solo show at RAF was one of those “you-shoulda-been-here” events, said Alex Albright, Fountain General Store proprietor, “and we’re looking forward to another of that kind of show this time ’round.”

Joe Newberry’s January 19 concert begins at 7:30. General admission is $15; reserved seats, $17.50.
