Diamond Creek

Location: R.A. Fountain

from our promo for this concert

Since forming last year, Diamond Creek has quickly established itself as one of the best traditional bluegrass bands in North Carolina. The band is fronted by the Four Oaks-based couple Kandis Johnson and her husband, Russell, who is also founder and lead singer of the Grass Cats. Kandis Johnson plays bass and Russell Johnson, on mandolin, has one of the most distinctive “high lonesome” tenors in bluegrass. He’s also one of the bluegrass industry’s most successful songwriters.

Spencer Mobley sings and plays guitar. Lead vocalist Emily Kirsch also plays guitar. Matt Hooper, formerly with Kickin’ Grass and later with Don Rigsby and the Midnight Call, is one of the best fiddlers in bluegrass. Julie Elkins, on banjo, has also performed with the bluegrass bands New Vintage and Kane’s River. She teaches banjo, guitar, and vocals, travels and performs internationally, and is a popular side musician on numerous recording projects.
