David Dyer & the Crooked Smile Band

Tonight’s show promises to be one of our best, and to make help get you motivated for the drive to Fountain, it’s also free. David Dyer fronts a talented group of veteran musicians from several of North Carolina’s finest bands. As the Crooked Smile Band, they’ve been crafting their unique style of roots-inspired alt-country since 1999 and have released 3 independent albums to date. For tonight’s show, they’ll also be playing tunes from their forthcoming 4th release.

They’re mostly a festival band, playing the likes of the Azalea Festival, Shakori Hills, BeleChere, Floyd Fest, the LEAF festival, and Lazy Days, among them, and we’re delighted to have them coming back to town for a second time.

The players

David Dyer, an award-winning singer-songwriter, on acoustic guitar.

Ken Weigand on bass & vocals, is also a singer-songwriter and teaching pro with Bamboo Music.

Bernie Petteway on electric and acoustic guitar: a local legend popular as a session musician and formerly with several local bands, symphonies, and Broadway shows.

Allyn Love on pedal steel guitar: 10 years with the Grand Ol’ Opry and touring with Brad Paisley, Sara Evans, Reba McEntire, and Steve Wariner.

Fran Dyer is vocalist.

Based in Raleigh, CSB has been performing regularly for the past 18 years at the NC Museum of Art, ArtSpace, Fletcher Theatre, and Raleigh’s First Night.

Their second album, Crossroads Grocery, was produced and recorded outside San Francisco at Van Morrison’s studio, and Morrison’s daughter, Shana, guests on three of its tracks.
