Chatham Rabbits Friday Night

[Fountain, NC] The Chapel Hill-based Chatham Rabbits perform original and traditional bluegrass, country, and old-time mountain music at Fountain General Store this coming Friday night.

The Rabbits are Sarah Osborne McCombie on banjo and vocals and Austin McCombie on guitar, fiddle and vocals. They take their name from the 1930s mill band in Bynum, NC, on the Haw River, where they live in the house where one of the original Chatham Rabbits once lived.

Sarah Osborne McCombie grew up in Raleigh and is a Peace College graduate. She was the music teacher at the Friends School of Wilmington and currently is the music teacher at Montessori Community School of Durham.

She has performed at Fountain with the old-time band the South Carolina Broadcasters, who have now re-located to Mt. Airy.

Austin McCombie is a Wilmington native who grew up listening to family playing old-time at one house and classic country at another. He was guitarist in the “super hispster electronic band DASH” before returning to his musical roots, after meeting his future wife, Sarah Osborne, at a Mandolin Orange concert. He is an NC State grad and works as a financial adviser.

The Chatham Rabbits’ debut CD “All I Want from You” is forthcoming this summer, when they will also be performing at the OcraFolk Festival in early June and the Festival for the Eno in July.

The Chatham Rabbits’ May 18 concert at Fountain General Store begins at 7:30. General admission is $8.50; reserved seats, $11. Both prices include tax.
