Bluegrass jam

Location: R.A. Fountain

From the May 1, 2008 FAD:

The Smith Brothers Bluegrass Band hosts a bluegrass jam at Fountain General Store this Saturday night

Troy, Shelton and Grady Smith grew up on a farm outside of Rocky Mount. Together–and respectively on guitar, banjo, and dobro–they have over a century’s worth of bluegrass picking experience. Rickey Privett, of Dortches, plays mandolin and sings lead tenor. Paul Winstead of Sandy Cross plays bull bass, and Wayne Melvin of Rocky Mount plays guitar.

Winstead and Melvin are performing with the Smiths for the first time in Fountain. “We’ve been picking with them at the B & B,” said Troy Smith. B & B Stables, north of Nashville off of NC 58, hosts a bluegrass jam every first Friday.
