[Fountain, NC] Award winning author, songwriter, and musician Bland Simpson will perform original songs from his Red Clay Ramblers projects and talk about his latest book at Fountain General Store this coming Thursday night.

The multi-talented Simpson, an Elizabeth City native, is Kenan Distinguished Professor of English and Creative Writing at UNC-CH, pianist, vocalist and songwriter for the Tony-winning Red Clay Ramblers, and the author of seven books published by UNC Press.

Little Rivers and Waterway Tales: A Carolinian’s Eastern Streams, which was published in September, includes photographs by Simpson’s wife, Ann Carey Simpson, who has recently been named interim president of the nonprofit NC Catch, which supports local fishermen and seafood.

“Bland’s been a tireless promoter and defender of eastern North Carolina, especially its waterways and wildlife, over a long and distinguished career,” said Alex Albright, Fountain General Store proprietor. “He’s also a very entertaining storyteller, songwriter, and performer, and we’ll get the benefit of all those talents.”

Simpson will accompany himself on keyboards for the musical portion of the program. He will also read from and discuss his new book. Copies of all of his UNC Press-published books will be available for purchase and autograph.

Bland Simpson’s free performance on December 3 begins at 7 p.m.
