This Sunday afternoon, you’ll enjoy a jazz & pop set from a talented quartet of Rose High saxophone players: Luke Metzger on alto, Nathan Jenkins on soprano, Kollin Pongpairoj on tenor, and Landen Wagoner on baritone. Michael Stephenson leads the group, helps them rehearse, and will likely sit in on a couple of numbers.
In addition to their music, the Rose quartet stays active in school. Landen runs track and plays in all three Rose High bands, including the jazz band, the wind ensemble and marching band. Kollin also plays in all of those bands and runs track. Multi-talented Nathan Jenkins also plays percussions. Luke Metzger plays on the soccer team and performs in the jazz and concert bands and also is in the school’s art club. He’s been performing in Fountain in recent months at Fountain Presbyterian Church.
Michael Stephenson directs the music and drama programs at Pitt Community College. Stephenson has been the soprano saxophonist for the New Century Saxophone Quartet for over 30 years, and with them he has performed all over the world including Carnegie Hall, Ambassador Auditorium, the Concertgebouw, the Hong Kong Performing Arts Center, and the White House. NCSQ has also recorded eight CDs.
This concert was originally scheduled as a Christmas celebration, hence their seasonal attire.
